Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) in 1894.
So much has been written about the Brahms Symphony #4 that it's difficult to know how to encapsulate it in this brief space. So we'll feature it at 2:00pm for today's Midday Masterpiece and let it wash over you... and we'll leave you to research all about Brahms' final symphonic achievement... from 1885... when he was 52... his only symphony to end in a minor key... that his friends tried to persuade him to edit... because it was "too intellectual." (And so on...)
