The Cévennes Mountains of France (source of d'Indy's folk song) | photo by Marie H Ray on Unsplash
French composer Vincent d’Indy composed his 1886 “Symphony on a French Mountain Air '' around a folk song he heard in the Cévennes mountains of Southwestern France. The unusual scoring features a piano that is prominent but never really becomes dominant. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
