French composer Camille Saint-Saëns thought his suite, Carnival of the Animals, was too humorous and would negatively affect his reputation as a serious composer so he prohibited it from being published until after his death. He passed away in 1921 and, despite his fears, his “Carnival” has become a beloved classic. You'll hear musical depictions of hens & roosters, mules, kangaroos, fish, an elephant, a swan, and more, on today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
