Though he was raised in a devout Catholic family, it wasn't until the untimely death of two friends later in his life that French composer Francis Poulenc found his spirituality reawakened. Following that, he composed a series of sacred works including his "Stabat Mater" in 1950 and "Gloria" in 1959, just about four years before his own passing in 1963. Poulenc's "Gloria" is today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
