Sergei Rachmaninoff in 1915 and some of the final movement of his Piano Concerto 3
The Washington Post once called the notoriously difficult Piano Concerto #3 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, "perhaps the most difficult piece ever written for piano...40 minutes of finger-twisting madness.” The work doesn't require just superior finger ability but also an intellectual sensitivity to its deeper structure. Martha Argerich is the able soloist on both accounts in the “Mt. Everest of concertos” today at 2:00pm for your Midday Masterpiece.
