Classical Music Playlist, February 22, 2022
Like Frédéric Chopin, Polish-born violinist Henryk Wieniawski was a virtuoso musician who also composed. After an early death at age 44 following strenuous touring including through the U.S., Wieniawski left behind a legacy of a higher standard of playing, important instructional Etudes that are still practiced, and several showpiece compositions for his instrument. One was his D-minor Violin Concerto No. 2. It's an essential in any professional violinist’s repertoire, and it's today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
