Composer Albert Dietrich (1829-1908) in 1890.
German composer Albert Dietrich (1829-1908) studied with Robert Schumann in Dusseldorf where he also met Johannes Brahms with whom he developed a lifelong friendship and both composers held Dietrich's talent in high esteem. As Music Director at the Oldenburg Court in Germany for thirty years, Dietrich introduced many works of Brahms who also visited Dietrich there and performed with him frequently. The year after the death of Brahms in 1897, Dietrich published his “Recollections of Brahms'' which today remains an important biographical source. The Oldenburg State Orchestra performs Dietrich’s only Violin Concerto, in d-minor from 1874, for today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
