In his 68th year, French composer Théodore Dubois wrote a quintet for piano, oboe and string trio (single violin, viola and cello). The timbre of these particular instruments together, along with his charming melodies and clarity of writing, creates a sonority of refined taste in the tradition of late French Romanticism. The 1905 Piano Quintet in F major by Théodore Dubois is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
