Robert Schumann (1810-1856)
Robert Schumann wrote his only violin concerto just before his suicide attempt in early 1854 and subsequent admission to a sanatorium where he’d spend the rest of his life. Some perceived the Concerto as the work of a creative mind in decline and kept it locked up for over 80 years before its world premiere performance in 1937. Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in d-minor is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
For a lengthier recount of the Concerto’s history, look for the post about it in our CapRadio Music Facebook Group.
