Claude Debussy in 1909. Color by Klimbim (Olga Shirnina) who grants free use.
In the early 1900s Claude Debussy composed a suite of “Images for Orchestra” that evoke England, Spain and France. The Suite opens with some “sad jigs” from England, then three movements in the middle make up a separate suite within the suite titled “Iberia” that was inspired by Debussy's single day in Spain, and finally the larger suite concludes with the French folk song-flavored Rondes de printemps ("Round dances of spring"). Hear the San Francisco Symphony perform Debussy’s entire five-movement “Images for Orchestra” for your Midday Masterpiece today at 2:00 pm.
