Beethoven had originally intended to dedicate his “Eroica” Symphony No. 3 to the great man that Napoleon had shown promise to become. But when he turned out to be more of a tyrant, Beethoven changed the Symphony’s dedication to "Heroic Symphony, composed to celebrate the memory of a great man." And that is ambiguous enough to include the memory of any heroic person. So on this Memorial Day, we dedicate Beethoven’s “Heroic” Symphony to all who heroically gave their all. The “Eroica’ Symphony is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
