Before his disastrous marriage and other issues would raise the drama in his Symphonies 4 through 6, Tchaikovsky’s last emotionally uncomplicated Symphony No. 3 is a comparatively easy-going work that mirrors the relaxed summer he spent in the country where he composed it. Now that we’re after Memorial Day and unofficially into summer, set a chill tone for the months ahead with Tchaikovsky’s (comparatively relaxing) summertime Symphony No. 3, today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
