Danish composer Carl Nielsen was born on this date in 1885. His 1922 Wind Quintet was positively received at its public premiere, performed often during his lifetime, performed at his funeral (in 1931), and has become a standard in the wind quintet repertoire. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
