American composer Amy Beach (1867-1944)
To highlight that we’re a nation of immigrants, on this Independence Day we’re going to air the “Gaelic Symphony” by American composer Amy Beach who recalls her ancestry in old Irish and Scottish themes. This first symphony ever published by an American female composer also highlights the achievements of women in our history. The “Gaelic Symphony” from 1894 by Amy Beach is our Midday Masterpiece today at 2:00 pm.
