Classical Music Playlist, August 3, 2022
In the late 1800s when most French composers seemed interested almost exclusively in opera, Camille Saint-Saëns embraced what was still considered a German form and composed a good deal of chamber music: two string quartets, three piano trios, a piano quintet and, in 1875, his 2nd Piano Quartet. Showing great balance of the piano and strings, the Piano Quartet in B-flat Major by Camille Saint-Saëns is still considered a staple of the chamber music repertoire, and it’s today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
