Mozart participated in the festivities for the coronation of Emperor Leopold II in 1790. Except that he was overlooked for participation in the official celebrations, so he arranged his own concert at which he performed his Piano Concerto #26 (K 537 that he wrote in 1788) and Piano Concerto #19 (K 459 from 1784). Because of that performance, the Concerto #26 picked up the title along the way of the “Coronation” Concerto. And for the same reason, the Concerto #19 is sometimes also referred to as a “Coronation” Concerto. The latter is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm with soloist Mitsuko Uchida.
