Classical Music Playlist, November 8, 2022
Written the year after his "Rhapsody In Blue," Gershwin's 1925 Piano Concerto in F was, at the time, called a "jazz concerto" by critics and audiences. But Gershwin noted that its form was classical but "attempted to utilize certain jazz rhythms worked out along more or less symphonic lines." With its Charleston rhythm, blues nocturne, sonata form and classical rondo, Gershwin brought together the two worlds of classical and jazz. Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
