Joaquín Rodrigo in 1960 | photo by Juan Gyenes
The Los Romeros family of guitarists commissioned the "Concierto Andaluz" from Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo in 1967. He composed the music as an homage to the Andalusian roots of the Romeros, and to the landscape and music of Andalucia with musical mentions of the flamenco forms of Buleria, Zapateado and Sevillana. As we celebrate Joaquín Rodrigo’s birthday today (1901-1999), you’ll hear the Romeros perform the “Concierto Andaluz for Four Guitars” for today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
