Duo Gazzana - pianist Raffaella and violinist Natascia Gazzana - photo by Stefano Borghi
To some degree, all three of Edvard Grieg's Violin Sonatas contain similarities or references to specific Norwegian folk songs. And while he considered the Second Sonata as the "Norwegian" Sonata, he felt the Third had "the broader horizon." It was an immediate success and also a personal favorite of Grieg's own compositions. From their November 2022 release on ECM, the duo of Italian sisters – pianist Raffaella and violinist Natascia Gazzana – perform the Edvard Grieg Violin Sonata No. 3 for today's Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
