Though he wrote his String Quartet No. 2 in 1881 and passed away in 1887, in 1954 Russian composer Alexander Borodin won a Tony Award because his music was used as the basis for new songs in the Broadway musical "Kismet" including the famous theme from the Quartet’s 2nd movement that became the song "Baubles, Bangles and Beads" (which is also a standard for jazz musicians). Borodin's String Quartet No. 2 is today's Midday Masterpiece (performed by Russia's Borodin Quartet that was founded in 1945 and is still going strong).
