Before the New World Symphony, before international superstardom, before hordes of fans performing and publishing his music as soon as possible...Antonin Dvorak was just another artist in his 30s struggling to get noticed.
He wrote his 5th Symphony in 1875, still a few years from achieving any fame or success. It wasn’t performed for 4 years, not published for 13. In fact, by the time he wrote his next symphony, that one (No. 6) got published as No. 1, because Dvorak was so new to the general public.
So today, knowing more about Dvorak’s life than he could’ve known when he wrote, let’s look back and enjoy his Symphony No. 5, your Midday Masterpiece at 2pm.
