English composer and teacher Sir Hubert Parry taught at the Royal College of Music from 1883, was its Director since 1900, and taught such notable composers as Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, Frank Bridge and John Ireland. He wrote only one piano concerto, completed in 1879. Its 1880 premiere won a mix of rave reviews and, at the time, descriptions as avante garde. Hubert Parry’s Piano Concerto in F-Sharp Major is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
