Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871-1927)
Born in 1871, the 150th birthday of Swedish composer Wilhelm Stenhammar was celebrated with a two-week festival in Sweden in the Fall of 2021. He dedicated his 1915 Second Symphony to the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra for which he was Music Director for 15 seasons beginning in 1907. They perform a 1983 recording of Stenhammar’s Symphony No. 2 for today’s Midday Masterpiece.
