Barbara Strozzi | by Bernardo Strozzi (1600s)
CapRadio Classical and Jazz is celebrating women in music all month long by featuring a different classical composer every weekday. Today's spotlight is on multiple women of the baroque era. You’ll hear music from each of them throughout the day:
- Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (French; 1665-1729). Harpsichordist and composer.
- Barbara Strozzi (Italian; 1619-1677). Composer and Singer.
- Rosa Giacinta Badalla (Italian; c 1660-c 1710). Composer and Benedictine nun.
- Camilla de Rossi (Italian; fl 1670-1710). Composer of oratorios.
- Francesca Caccini (Italian; 1587-1640). Composer, singer, lutenist, poet, and music teacher.
- Isabella Leonarda (Italian; 1620-1704). Composer.
- Bianca Maria Meda (Italian; c 1665-c 1733). Composer and Benedictine nun.
Today is also the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach and you’ll hear his music just about every hour today. Concerti for violins, oboe, keyboard and more. Orchestral Suites and many of the Brandenburg Concertos. Also, our After Hours classical stream from 7 to 10 pm is ALL Bach!
