Danish composer Carl Nielsen (appx 1908)
After becoming disenchanted with bureaucracy and demands of opera company administrations, Danish composer Carl Nielsen focused instead on smaller-scale incidental music for stage plays. One such production was “Aladdin” in 1919, based on a revered work of Danish literature, and was a smashing success. The full score lasting more than 80 minutes, Nielsen would conduct extracts in future years to great acclaim. With its dances based on music of different cultures, the Aladdin SUITE is today's Midday Masterpiece.
