In August of 1782, Mozart composed a Serenade for celebrations around the enoblement of a family friend, Sigmund Haffner. Six months later, Mozart altered the Serenade into a symphony and was very pleased with it, as was the Emperor when it premiered in Vienna in 1783. The result, Mozart's "Haffner" Symphony #35, is today's Midday Masterpiece.
