Formed in 2015, the Chineke! Orchestra is Europe’s first professional majority Black and ethnically diverse orchestra. In September 2022 they released an album in commemoration of the 110th anniversary of African-British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s death. The album includes his famous Violin Concerto in G minor which Coleridge-Taylor wrote for American violinist Minnie “Maud” Powell, a champion of music by African-American and female composers. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece.
