Florence Price (1887-1953)
Florence Price had been composing for many years when she entered her music into different categories of a 1932 music composition competition. This proved a turning point for her. She won multiple awards including two first prize honors for her Symphony in E-minor and Piano Sonata also in E-minor. From a recent release by pianist Michelle Cann, that Blue Ribbon Piano Sonata is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
