Composer Manuel Poncé (1882-1948)
Though after the Mexican Revolution (roughly 1910-20), composer Manuel Poncé (1882-1948) integrated more of his country’s Mexican themes into his music, his 1912 Piano Concerto No. 1 is in his earlier style that reflects his European training more than his later music with Mexican folk elements. Poncé’s Piano Concerto #1, titled “Romántico,” is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
