Cologne Cathedral | Image by B. Hochsprung from Pixabay
The title of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, “Rhenish,” is a reference to things along the Rhine River that he evokes musically such as the morning landscape, local dances and the grand gothic cathedral of Cologne in the 4th movement of this 5-movement symphony. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece.
