The great English conductor Sir Thomas Beecham said of the Frederick Delius Violin Concerto of 1916, "it has considerable melodic beauty and is structurally entirely logical and effective. It also bears the stamp of genuine originality, in owning no resemblance to anything of the sort written by anyone before or since." In a single movement that fluidly changes tempos and reveals its melodies, the concerto unfolds with the serendipitous feel of a dreamscape. The Frederick Delius Violin Concerto is today's Midday Masterpiece.
