Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921)
"With it I have given all I could give. What I did, I could not achieve again."
And he never did. French composer (and organist) Camille Saint-Saëns said that about his Symphony #3, called the “Organ” Symphony. It was, indeed, his final symphony, even though he lived another 35 years.
Today hear a performance with organist James O’Donnell who, after 23 years, last December left his position as Organist and Master of Music at Westminster Abbey for a Professorship at the Yale School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music. It's today's Midday Masterpiece.
