Composer Antonín Dvořák painted his Symphony No. 6 with lots of Czech color. And while it was an appreciative Czech audience in Prague at the premiere [October 1881] that rose to their feet to demand an encore of the Czech dance-based Scherzo movement, the symphony soon appeared on concert programs throughout Europe and America and established Dvořák as a leading composer internationally. The Symphony No. 6 by Antonín Dvořák is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
