Czech composer Antonín Dvořák
Read just about any review of the Antonín Dvořák Piano Trio No. 3 in f-minor - from the time of its composition in 1883 to today - and many things are agreed upon. It's a masterwork. Dvořák was "at the pinnacle of his career" [1884]. The Trio is "a work of original genius" [1885]. It's uncharacteristically dark and brooding for Dvořák. It’s epic. And the elegiac slow movement is the heart of the Trio; full of sorrow, affection and quite possibly love. Dvořák's mother had recently died (many analyses of the Trio point out) and perhaps he was pouring out his emotions. The sublime Piano Trio No. 3 by Antonín Dvořák is today's Midday Masterpiece.
