Alexander Glazunov in 1907
Russian composer Alexander Glazunov served as Director of the St Petersburg Conservatory for 25 years beginning in 1905. Completed in 1895, his Fifth symphony exhibits a 19th century Russian soul with its heavy orchestration, lightweight ballet sparkle, soaring romance and imperial pageantry. The Symphony #5 by Alexander Glazunov is today's Midday Masterpiece.
