The Cello Concerto in d-minor by French composer Édouard Lalo has passages & themes reminiscent of Beethoven and Schumann, and moments of playfulness contrasting with hints of Spanish rhythms and more poignant sections. One cellist wrote that, in the end, the audience will likely be left feeling emotionally touched rather than entertained. Lalo’s virtuosic Cello Concerto in D-minor is today's Midday Masterpiece.
