After its premiere, one of the greatest piano concertos ever written received insults and rejection and was called unplayable. One scathing review said it would never become an enduring work. They were all wrong. Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is now recognized as one of the masterwork piano concertos, and it’s today’s Midday Masterpiece.
