Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921)
In the mid-late 1800s when most French composers seemed interested almost exclusively in opera, Camille Saint-Saëns embraced what was still considered a German form and composed a good deal of chamber music, beginning with his early Piano Quintet in A-minor in about 1855. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece.
