Robert and Clara Schumann in 1847
Robert Schumann composed three numbered Piano Trios. His wife Clara felt that the Third, from 1851, was “original and passionate.” In particular, she said the scherzo movement will carry the listener “along with it into the wildest depths.” The Borodin Trio performs Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 3 for today's Midday Masterpiece.
