Danish composer Carl Nielsen (appx 1908)
One can get a glimpse into the personality of Danish composer Carl Nielsen through his comments about writing his only Violin Concerto. He found creating the work challenging but inspiring; he said composing the work was "essentially difficult and therefore a lot of fun." And applying himself to the challenge was worth it: the 1912 premiere of the concerto was a resounding success. The Carl Nielsen Violin Concerto is today's Midday Masterpiece.
