Pianist Krystian Zimerman | photo: Bartek Barczyk
Franz Lizst’s 2nd Piano Concerto is less virtuosic for the soloist and more of an accompaniment to the orchestra. Structured more like one of Liszt's Symphonic Poems rather than a strict concerto, the music progresses in single movement across six sections from a single melodic theme that undergoes transformations from beginning to end. The Franz Liszt Piano Concerto No. 2 is today’s Midday Masterpiece and featuring pianist Krystian Zimerman who celebrates his 67th birthday today.
