Composer Pavel Vranický (1756-1808)
After early years of study, Moravian (Czech) composer Pavel Vranický (1756-1808) moved to Vienna where he would become a central figure of the city's musical life. He was music director of two royal theater orchestras and Mozart admired him highly, as did Haydn and Beethoven who entrusted him to conduct their new works. A prolific composer across nearly all genres, his works were published and widely distributed making him one of the most highly regarded composers across Europe. But he was admired most for his symphonies, of which 45 are known today, and in the late 1790s was the most important symphonist in Vienna. His final published symphony is today's Midday Masterpiece.
