This Women's History Month CapRadio highlights a different woman in music each weekday. Today's classical spotlight is on American composer and musician Valerie Coleman.
In the notes published with her music score, “Portraits of Langston” from 2007, Coleman wrote that the Harlem Renaissance of the early 1900s was the first time that the disciplines of visual art, music and literature celebrated African-American culture. Coleman continues:
