Classical Music Playlist, April 10, 2024
Between his dramatic “Eroica” Symphony No. 3 and his innovative Fifth, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 is lighter fare because a wealthy Count commissioned him for a conservative symphony more in the style of Haydn. But that doesn’t make it unlistenable or unworthy of the composer. True to Beethoven’s talent, he composed music full of spritely good humor and charm. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
