Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826)
The clarinet was fairly new and going through lots of design changes in the couple decades around 1800 or so, it being different for Mozart (who died 1791) than it was even just in 1811 when Carl Maria Von Weber exploited the instrument’s most recent modifications for his two Clarinet Concertos that year, both commissioned by the King of Bavaria for the first clarinetist of his Munich court orchestra. Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
