Alexander Glazunov in 1907
It’s been observed that music in 19th century Russia was often a reflection of its time and place. This was true for Alexander Glazunov’s first three symphonies which were nationalistic in character. But not for his 4th which he described as “personal, free, subjective impressions of myself.” Glazunov's Symphony No. 4 is today's Midday Masterpiece.
