Though the 1875 Symphony No. 1 by American composer John Knowles Paine was composed in the U.S., it wasn't published until 1908, two years after his death. But his 1879 Symphony No. 2 was published in 1880, making it the first full-score symphony ever published in America. It's today's Midday Masterpiece.
