Composer Aram Khachaturian
Born to Armenian parents in Tbilisi, Georgia, Aram Khachaturian was a favorite composer of Soviet Union authorities because he was world famous and wrote tuneful, accessible music that also reflected the ethnic diversity of the USSR. All of this is demonstrated in his popular 1940 Violin Concerto in D-minor. With American violinist Rachel Barton Pine, it's today's Midday Masterpiece.
