Danish composer Carl Nielsen (appx 1908)
Perhaps because Danish composer Carl Nielsen began working on his Symphony No. 4 in 1914 at the outset of WW1, he started thinking about the indestructible will to live. He observed that even if everything were destroyed, life would spring back, and he wanted to convey this inextinguishable life force present in all things including mankind, animals and nature. And there he had his title. Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4, “The Inextinguishable,” is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
