Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro received only 8 performances in Vienna on its premiere run. But later that year it was produced in Prague where it became a smash hit. So Mozart traveled to Prague to see what was up. After 8 days there, a concert of his works was suggested and he just happened to have with him a new Symphony that he didn’t INTEND to premiere there, but he unpacked and performed it and so it picked up the nickname “The Prague Symphony.” Mozart’s “Prague” Symphony No. 38 is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
